MobileHomeHundreds of Grove residents who occupy mobile homes turned out Tuesday night for a public hearing on changes to zoning for mobile home parks and RV’s, and angry citizens rallied to the meeting by Grove citizen Bobby Warden showed little respect for the city fathers.

A little background.

It was 6 months ago that Grove citizen Bobby Warden purchased the mobile home park north of Grove on Hwy 59, and placed new FEMA new mobile homes on that site.

bobby warden photoAbout the same time, the City of Grove advertised for volunteers to serve on the planning and zoning commission. There were two applicants, and Mayor Marty Follis, in an effort to avoid placing long time P & Zoning guru Judith Reed on the board, nominated Bobby Warden for the seat. The Council confirmed the appointment.

Shortly thereafter, Mr. Warden was booted off the Planning & Zoning Board, for derelict of duty or something like that…and Mayor Follis still refused to place Judith Reed on the P & Z board.

Mr. Warden also purchased Smitty’s Resort, one of Grove’s original (LFR) Lake Front Resort properties and is attempting to add on to the resort by expanding onto an additional 20 acres adjacent to Scotty’s Resort.

The P&Z board, the city council and the city attorney have told Warden that the expansion of his new property for mobile homes requires adjacent property owners to approve of his plans, and Buffalo Shores’ neighbors are not likely to support his efforts. Warden has sued the city of Grove, claiming loss of use of his 20 acres.

The citizens were outraged that it appears the council is attempting to eliminate mobile home parks in Grove. They also were insulted by what they felt was a condescending council, favoring the rich, with disdain for working folks. This was further stoked by the city spending several thousand dollars planting shrubs to hide the Hwy. 59 mobile home park, and an audio of councilman Trumbull stating he “cringed” riding by the mobile home park. Trumble said at the meeting that the tape was edited.

The following 3-part video is of the entire public hearing. No editing has taken place.

Below the videos, you will find copies if the ordinances, as well as copies of posters Warden used to rally the Citizens to the meeting.
