Here are some reasons why you should join a golf league!

1. A golf league is fun!

2. A golf league is a great way to network for both friendships and business connections.

3. You are able to compete on an even playing field.

4. Golf allows you to establish a handicap which is applied against whatever course you are playing on. Handicaps allow golfers of all skill levels to compete against one another.

5. Friendly competition drives you to improve your game. It’s human nature that none of us like to lose. The desire to golf well in league will produce more focused practice sessions.

6. You have a weekly scheduled time to golf. We all live busy lives.Only on the course will you get the valuable experience in course management needed to improve your game.

7. Learn from golfing with better players. Golfing with better golfers will help you improve your game by watching how they manage their way around the course.

June 9th League Results

I hope you are convinced you of the benefits of joining a golf league. It’s a great way to both further your enjoyment of the game and improve your skills.

GOLF TIP OF THE WEEK

A good golf swing starts at the bottom of your feet and moves up. You should literally feel the ground with the soles of your shoes. It is also recommended that you feel more weight to the inside of the bottom of your feet (exaggeration would be to feel knock-kneed). Lean forward until your heels come off the ground then lean back until your toes come off the ground…then find what you would call “the middle” of those feelings. Don’t forget that on a normal golf shot you want your toes, knees, hips and shoulders all aligned and going to the same target.

There were 16 Special Olympian golfers from the Home of Hope facility and 12 of us coaches that either spent the night or travelled back and forth. Participating coaches (called Unified Partners where we hit every other shot) were: Gregg Compton, Larry Mlnarik, Connard Luper, Ben Jackson, Randall Hendricks, Mickey and Nina Landers, Dennis Patrick, Roger Cook, Jack Moore and Steve Pace.

We meet every Monday at Shangri-La. Call Steve at 405-834-3217…thanks. Observers and any one with interest in this program is invited to come out and observe. For those of you that have donated clubs and equipment. Thank you for your donation! Thanks again for your donations….. Mike Kelly, Jamie Perryman, Judy McHenry and Suzanne Knott, Pat Dunn, Dave Cole, Monty Hartley, Suzynne “Peaches” Fowler. Thanks to Carl Metcalf and Second Chance Pet rescue for also donating some golf equipment. Thanks also to Shangri-La Golf Club for their contributions to the Special Olympians; Golf Carts, Practice Facilities and some actual play on the course. Thanks also to the 12 dedicated “coaches” that work with the Special Olympians every week (Mondays).

GOLF JOKE of the WEEK

Off the seventh tee, Brian sliced his shot deep into a wooded ravine. He took his eight iron and clambered down the embankment in search of his lost ball. After many long minutes of hacking at the underbrush, he spotted something glistening in the leaves. As he drew nearer, he discovered that it was an eight iron in hands of a skeleton! Joe immediately called out to his friend, “Jack, I’ve got trouble down here!” “What’s the matter” Jack asked from the edge of the ravine. “Bring me my wedge,” Brian shouted. “You can’t get out of here with an eight iron!”

KEEP IT IN THE MIDDLE !
