(Miami, OK) – The City of Miami’s Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) Cemetery will hold its Living History Tour on Thursday, September 26, from 1:00-6:00 p.m. starting at the gazebo.
Since 1892, the G.A.R. Cemetery has served as the final resting place for many. This history tour is being conducted to honor and remember the life stories of several individuals, and to highlight the contributions they made to our community.
Attendees will receive a walking tour brochure that details information of the featured individuals on our tour, along with a map marking each location. In addition, located at each gravesite will be display boards containing photos, past newspaper articles, and historical summaries for each person.
“A unique twist will be that at some of the locations, family members, friends, or community members will be at the grave to talk about that individual,” stated HR Director/G.A.R. Cemetery manager, Kim Horn.
This tour is FREE to the public and attendees can do a walking tour at their own pace, or the American Legion and Pelivan will be onsite with transportation, if anyone would like a guided tour.
To learn more about the tour you can contact the City of Miami G.A.R. Cemetery at (918) 541-2288.
In the case of inclement weather, the Living History Tour will be postponed to a later date.
