Dr. Darrell Townsend Speaks to the GLS&PS February Meeting
The Grand Lake Sail & Power Squadron held its February meeting at The Parrot Restaurant. After a social meet & greet hour, the business meeting was opened by Commander Gene Pett. The evening’s speaker, Dr. Darrell Townsend, from GRDA gave an informative program on the Shoreline Management Program, followed by a lively question and answer session.
The GLS&PS is a National service and social organization, stressing boating safety, education and fellowship. Squadron members give free boat safety inspections, help out with the annual shoreline clean up on Grand Lake, and staff the GLA Visitors’ Center on the weekends in the summer.
The squadron was visible at the Grove Boat Show, where they had an exhibit about the organization, fitted children under 12 for free life jackets, courtesy of GRDA, and had a fire extinguisher demonstration, where both children and adults could practice putting out a fire.
